BENEFITS OF YOGA + HOW I GOT STARTED

They say you find yoga when you need it the most…

& as I get older I truly believe it. It isn’t long into your first class when you realize yoga is some sort of magic and as you continue to explore your practice you’ll learn it is truly the ultimate life hack.

I promise i’m not over exaggerating when I say yoga saved my life. When I was 16 years old, not only was I along for the ride on the rollercoaster of teenage emotion, but I was being bullied in sports and cheated on by my first boyfriend. A recipe for disaster to say the least.

Long story short - I couldn’t control what was being said about me so I decided to focus on the things I could control - like exercise and diet.

I constricted myself to a certain amount of calories. Spent at least 45 mins on the elliptical a day. I lost a bunch of weight, wouldn’t go to school and ended up in the hospital so my parents didn’t get arrested for keeping me home. I had a complete breakdown but when I look back I know it was really a breakthrough! I found yoga, started hanging out with my friends outside of volleyball and went off meds completely.

To be honest with you… I never knew if I would share this. Digging deep into the darkest part of my soul and putting it on display for the world to see. It’s scary but it’s healing. Yoga was my biggest catalyst for change so when I say if you have never practiced yoga - start today. It brought happiness and love into my life on the darkest days and changed me for the better. If my story wasn’t convincing enough, here are some more reasons why you should start your practice today.

CONNECT THE MIND, BODY & SOUL

Living in alignment and reaching enlightenment is ultimately the goal of yoga. It teaches us how to live with ourselves, the earth and the people around us. How to find our center, step into our power and live our truth. The euphoria from yoga with help you heal from the past and manifest the future. This is how you know you’ve connected the mind, body and soul. It takes lifetimes to get there but that’s why we practice everyday.

HELP TO GIVE YOUR MIND A BREAK

We all need a little time to unplug. Yoga allows us to free ourselves from everyday responsibilities and take the time to grow within ourselves. Wherever you are right now sit up tall, roll your shoulders back, take a few deeps breaths and allow yoga to help you find your center.

IMPROVE BALANCE, POSTURE & STRENGTH

Next time you do yoga, get really into it. Close your eyes and zone into how the body feels. Do a body scan and ask yourself “how can I sync my movements to the breath.” Pause and breath.

ENJOY A LITTLE SELF MASSAGE

Theres nothing I love more than a little organ stimulation.. lol seriously though yoga is a great form of self massage. Yoga helps boost the immune system, aide in digestion, stimulate lymphatic drainage and eliminate toxins in the body.

If you have a tennis ball at home you can add rolling to your practice as an extra massage tool!

BOOSTS THE IMMUNE SYSTEM

Yoga keeps you healthy by alleviating allergy symptoms and helping prevent migraines. Especially if you come to my class bc the essential oils add a little extra razzle dazzle.

DELAYS THE AGING PROCESS

Yep! You read that right. By stimulating detoxification yoga actually delays aging and reduces menopause. #themoreyouknow

AIDES IN RELIEVING CONSTIPATION

Just in case you needed to know yes, yoga does help keep you regular. Think about it… when you move your body, your body moves for you.
